Lance Jeter

Basketball ∙ Beaver Falls

Lance Jeter is legendary for the 2005 WPIAL Class 2A championship, in which he scored 37 points, including a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime and a 3-pointer at the buzzer in the third overtime to give the Tigers a 79-78 championship win. But Lance's story is more than one game.

In football at Beaver Falls High School, Lance excelled at wide receiver, with 50 catches for 810 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior, earning the Joe Namath Award for the best football player at Beaver Falls, playing in the Big 33 Football Classic, and being named AP Pennsylvania 2A first team.

Lance was even more impressive in basketball. As a junior, his 20-ppg average helped Beaver Falls to the 2005 WPIAL 2A championship. Under Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame coach Doug Biega, the Tigers won the PIAA state basketball championship in 2005. Lance was named the AP Pennsylvania 2A Player of the Year and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Boys' High School Athlete of the Year, and Lance was twice named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab Five. Over his Tigers career, Lance compiled 2,243 points and helped the Tigers to a 102-19 record.

Lance played basketball for Polk Community College in Florida for two seasons, helping his team to regular season Suncoast Conference championships in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, Lance earned honors for Suncoast Conference Player of the Year, FCSAA All-Tournament Team, the FCSAA All-State Team, and NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Catching the attention of scouts because of his skills on the court, Lance earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Nebraska, where he started 66 games for the Cornhuskers over two seasons.

From 2011 to 2019, 6'-3" Lance played pro basketball in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France, and Lithuania, with honors that included two Dutch Basketball League (DBL) Most Valuable Player awards, three DBL All-Star honors, and a DBL Playoffs MVP. Lance helped his teams to two DBL championships, a Polish Supercup championship, and a Dutch Supercup championship.

In 2010, Lance had his number 34 jersey retired at Beaver Falls, joining only Joe Namath in receiving that honor. In 2012, Lance's number 34 jersey was also retired by Polk State College. And in 2023, Lance was inducted into the Pittsburgh Basketball Hall of Fame.

Lance is the son of Beaver County Sports Hall of Famer Joy Jeter. Lance's children – Nico, Lance, and Camila – attend Rochester School District, where Lance helps coach their sports teams. Lance and his brother Ramone Shepard-Jeter have an Amateur Athletic Union basketball organization "Salute Hard Work" that helps boys and girls around Beaver County and Pittsburgh develop basketball skills.
