Frank Kaufman

Basketball ∙ Ambridge

Frank Kaufman was a key member of the 1967 Ambridge High School State Champion squad coached by Chuck DeVenzio that included such notables as Denny Wuycik, Dick DeVenzio, and Walt Ostrowski Jr. But basketball was not Frank’s only sport: a three year letter winner in track and field, he won three WPIAL championships in the high jump (1965, 1966, and 1967) and in 1967 held the state record and was named Scholastic Coach Magazine All American. Frank spent five years at Purdue University and coached on the collegiate level for six years at Georgia Southwest College, North Central College, and St Francis (IL). In 1977 he returned to Kentucky Christian High School in Hermitage and coached the basketball team to the 1987 state semifinals. Returning to his alma mater in 1979, Frank coached the junior high team for three years and in 1982 became coach and athletic director at the Community County of Allegheny County Boyce campus.
