John Darak

Golf ∙ Aliquippa

It is not always easy for someone who excels as a player to likewise excel as an instructor or coach. But John Darak was able to handle that sometimes difficult transition. He served as the head golf pro at what is now Beaver Lakes Country Club for more than 40 years. He won several Tri State PGA events and placed high among the finishers in many others. In addition, John instructed many golfers, from the very young on up, teaching the fine points of the game to help develop their skills. Among his many protégés is Jodi Figley Renner, who won a scholarship to Stanford. John served in various capacities with the Tri State Professional Golfers Association for the past 25 years and displayed his commitment to helping youth learn the sport of golf by serving as an original member of the Tri State PGA teaching staff for the Junior Golf Academy. He has also conducted junior golf programs during his tenure at Beaver Lakes. John was also the golf coach at the Community College of Beaver County, and he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Independent Hall of Fame.
